How it started

The idea for MakerShift was hatched as an event on May 6, 2017 as part of Partnership Planners and the Foundry Makerspace to celebrate student achievement alongside Capital Region “Makers” and to shift public conversations toward exploring the impact that S.T.E.A.M. innovations are having on 21st Century life and work.

Following this initial kickoff, event organizers continued to discuss ways that they could strengthen their communities. The strategy sessions that ensued over the following months led to the launch of a makerspace in midtown Harrisburg and several new S.T.E.A.M. activities, partnerships and programs.

Today, MakerShift has become a part of The Greater Capital Region STEAM Ecosystem sponsored by the Foundation For Enhancing Communities (TFEC). As a part of a maturing collective network of individuals and organizations from Hershey to Enola to Dillsburg, PA, ecosystem members convene around common goals with shared measures, to plan mutually reinforcing activities and communicate regularly.
